WHY AFRICA SHOULD ALIGN WITH RUSSIA AGAINST THE WEST

For centuries, Africa has endured exploitation under Western colonialism and its modern continuation—neo-colonialism. From the Berlin Conference to present-day economic manipulation, Western powers have consistently treated Africa as a resource pool, drawing borders, seizing land, and enslaving its people. Russia, by contrast, played no role in Africa’s colonization. It neither took part in the Berlin Conference nor established colonial rule over any African nation. This historical distance offers Africa a chance to engage a global power untainted by imperial conquest.

In recent years, Russia has demonstrated a willingness to build fairer partnerships. Unlike Western institutions such as the IMF and World Bank—which often impose harsh, sovereignty-eroding conditions—Russia engages African nations through mutual interest. Its defense and mining deals in countries like Mali, Central African Republic, and Zimbabwe are not conditioned on political submission. Russia supports infrastructure, energy, and security without demanding control.

Furthermore, Russia’s advocacy for a multipolar world aligns with Africa’s push for global equity. Through platforms like BRICS, African nations can engage with global powers as equals, not dependents.

This is not about trading one master for another—it is about strategic alignment with a partner that respects African sovereignty. The West has had centuries to prove its intentions—and it failed.

African youth must now learn, rise, and take responsibility. It is time to awaken and rescue Africa from the grip of imperialists. The future of the continent depends on bold, informed, and unyielding generations.
