Ebonyi Born Humanist Slams Graduates over 2025 Crusade Encouraging Superstition

Ebonyi Born Humanist Slams Graduates Over 2025 Crusade Encouraging Superstition: He slammed the youths in his article, “Okposi Crusade 2025: A Misplaced Priority In 21st Century” and wrote;

Though Nigeria is a secular State where religious freedom is guaranteed, there is also right to freedom of thought, conscience and expression. It is against the backdrop of this guaranteed rights that I will express my candid opinion on the atavism syndrome identified among our youths in Okposi. This is a call for Okposi renaissance.

The mantra of Okposi graduates and undergraduates always organising a crusade at a moment when great advancement in science and technology is the order of day is appalling and therefore a misplaced priority. I have followed the trends and despite all the crusades, nothing seems to be working in Okposi which is illustrative of the fact that our people wallow in misplaced priorities.

The essence of embarking on the voyage of education is to advance our society technologically, intellectually and progressively and not this sort of retardation and continuous validation of superstition and false hope in form of crusade. Belief in Ponzi schemes religious-coated as miracle and divine favours are promoted. Nobody ever merits what he or she doesn’t work for. It is belief in superstition and bad governance that has impeded development in Africa. Before we gained admission into various institutions we are enmeshed in over-religiosity because that was the desires of our parents but not for us to continue promoting theocracy instead of intellectual growth. Instead of promoting agenda that could aid development in Okposi, graduates and undergraduates are caught in the web of organising crusades that could undermine intellectualism, critical thinking and mental growth, superstition and vainglorious belief in divine intervention are being promoted.

These Pastors are invited to sell false hopes to our people every seasons yet nothing changes. Things are even worsening in Okposi community. Okposi community used to be a great pillar in the old Abia State before being carved into the new Ebonyi State created in 1996. Our illustrious sons and fathers; Late Pa Aja Nwachukwu achieved Federal Government College, Late Barrister Oko of Amenu achieved Eziokposi High School, Okposi.

They were many more great achievements by our forebears who understood that real achievements are not hosting crusades and engaging in Medical outreaches that may even undermine the essence of medical science, after selling false hope. Fast forward to our time, we achieve hosting crusades to sell false hopes and superstition to our people instead of rebuilding what our great mentors did. We can’t even industrialise Okposi and yet we cry a river for the increase in cultism in Okposi Ezinasator.

This should be a challenge to our sensibility. I am a lone voice that can see through the future that in the coming years, progressive minds, some graduates and undergraduates of Okposi Ezinasator will revive the real crusade to organise. Crusade for intellectual growth, for advancement in technology and for critical thinking ability, advancement in industry and an ultra modern market in order to promote trade and commerce.
